Resurrection…

by chen on April 4, 2010

Hey There,

I hope you all had a great Easter break. I love Easter because it’s a great time for reassessment, reflection and “resurrection”. What projects and dreams have you shelved in the last year. What have you achieved so far this year? What things in your life need your priority? I learnt this Easter that there is always going to be lots of work to do so it’s important for you to take some time out when you can.

Resurrection Sunday is a powerful time for me. It’s forced me to look deep within and really ask, “What do I really want?” You see, I need to make a very important decision that will change the direction of Conversations with Chen. Let me explain.

After my last post, I had great feedback from the community. What surprised me was the number of promoters and speakers who contacted me. Some were full of praise while others were unsure of the direction of where I was going and who’s side I was on. I didn’t know I had to take sides. (I often think my position is to be the “bridge”.) It was all a genuine surprise to me because a year ago when I started putting my thoughts down, I never knew it would have such an impact and influence in the marketplace. And I appreciate you for your continual support and encourage you to share these messages with others.

CWC was never designed to be a leading voice for the seminar industry, a valuable resource for speakers or an opportunity for new economy experts to find their voice and craft their message to a crowded marketplace. It always amazes me that when you focus on one thing, many things occur around you to help facilitate your goal. But like anything you do in life, there is the good, the bad and the ugly. Please pay particular attention to the following paragraphs.

Let’s talk ugly briefly. It’s come to my attention that certain people have used my posts as ammunition to tear other successful speakers down. That has never been my intent. My “vents” were designed to carry a voice of discussion as I don’t attend many seminars these days but I do have many people who feed me the pulse in the market. So if you are one of those people, STOP IT! Tearing others down so that you succeed or look good is old economy, scarcity thinking and basically sucks. You will not get far or have many friends I assure you.

Now to the bad. I have found many upcoming speakers are too focused on developing the opportunity and sale that they have forgotten about delivery of their products or service. Fulfillment is fundamental. This is the cause of most of the problems in the wealth creation game and constantly gives the industry a very bad name. It’s naive to think you can put the infrastructure in place to support a huge influx of orders. If bigger and established speakers struggle with after sales support and fulfillment, it’s naive to think you won’t have a problem when you sell successfully. Did you know a simple follow up or stick mechanism will dramatically reduce your refunds and build customer equity in your favour.

And finally the good news. For the last six months, I have been testing various things with Conversations with Chen and will continue to test the market so that I can continue to give you the best information I can. I know the insights I make today and in future will impact you more than some seminars because I come from truth and don’t have anything to sell you…yet! (ha ha…just had to slip that in!) I’ve achieved incredible success in this industry but I’ve also been burnt and ripped off by “sharks” that continue to patrol the platforms for profit.

Here’s the reality. I don’t have time to continue writing and dedicating time for CWC so future issues may be brief but I do promise to make them impactful for you. I respect your time and the reality is there’s too much clutter in your inbox and I must find other ways to transfer my knowledge and information to you. I’ve decided to focus more on building a mastermind group and online community of “good” people who want “greater” results. I hope you have seen value here and continue the journey with me and rise up to the challenges ahead.

In the last few weeks, I’ve noticed some clear behaviours coming out online and I’ve decided to go back to fundamentals. I’ve noticed that more time on facebook does not translate to more money, social media is about strategy and process, not outcomes and the sooner you get your online client to respond offline, you will get a higher value customer for life.

You will find me spending less time on the internet as I have decided to focus more on “friends” in the “real” world. The empty economy of facebook has convinced me that like network marketing, only a small percentage will make money with it. It’s time for me to focus on my strength and use my skills to impact my inner circle of clients and members.

My strength is in the mastermind environment, not as a speaker. There’s no one out there with depth of knowledge and skilful judgement to determine emerging trends and opportunities in the marketplace. My ability to cut through the clutter and see the money making model and business structure allows my clients to monetize and expand their business with simple principles and marketing campaigns.

I have always done things differently in life. I never saw the logic of doing the same things the same way because if you repeat the same thing as someone else, then it makes one of us redundant. Trends come and go but history never lies. I saw the person I was becoming and realised that it was not me. I got caught up in the drama of the negative vampires online and have realised that not all opinions carry the same weight. There’s very few people that I listen to and I value feedback from many members. That’s what helps me get better as a marketer and adviser.

If you know me, you know I have been in the seminar game a long time. Most of the time, I’ve been behind the scenes in the background. I refuse to play the same game because it’s not designed for you to win. Most successful speakers never tell you the reality of the game because they know that most of their students don’t have the drive and support but are more than willing to sell the training or convention. (By the way, I was blown away by the response from ex-NSA speakers. Please consider joining my “six figure speakers” group on FB)

Many clients I speak to now appreciate the “new” level of conversation, depth and honesty. It’s an environment that I engineer for my clients because it provides them a platform to be real. One where they can’t fail. And it doesn’t matter what you do, the percentages of people that get wealthy and people that don’t hasn’t changed despite all the technology and opportunities that are available to us. There may be many reasons for this but one important thing I believe is that no one spends time to draw out the real “you”. Everyone is trying to make you fit in with their “system” or “box” whereas the reality is the system or homestudy course destroys the essence of connecting with a human being.

I’ve just finished reading the book LINCHPIN and agree with many of the ideas put forward by Seth Godin. One of them in particular is that “Brillance occurs in tiny bursts”. Have you noticed there are only brief periods of time when “BIG” breakthroughs occurred. I’m not talking about the everyday work, but the moments which change your life. What decisions have changed your life? It’s a great time to reflect. Be brilliant!

Nothing is missing…remember as Steven Pressfield says, “Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.” Thank you Steven!

Until next time.

Simplify Your Life,

CHEN

P.S I always remind my boys at this time of year that it rains at Easter because when Jesus died, the world cried. Do you have stories that you tell your kids to explain the adult world? I would love to hear them. I find the best stories are ones that have embedded lessons where truth and wisdom are shared.

P.P.S Adelaide Mastermind is on…if you are interested please let me know. If you want to fly there, it will be worth it but numbers are limited and priority will be given to Adelaide participants first.
